I was tired of going to the supermarket every time I needed herbs for my cooking and I thought that this was they way it was until I bumped into Charlie Dimmock (Groundforce) and I found that growing your own herbs to cook with is fun and exciting,you can save loads of money, especially if you use a lot of herbs in the kitchen, as contrary to what I had been led to believe, they can be easy to grow and can be used to help with self healing .

The only difficulty will be deciding what herbs you want in your garden storecupboard, I found that I started with the ones that I used the most in cooking, Newcomers to cooking with Herbs can always add more herbs to your garden later.

If you are wanting herbs with a very strong taste consider planting rosemary and sage. Many herbs give your food a great flavor without being too bold. These include basil and thyme. For blending you will want to grow parsley and chives.

Garden herbs have different growing patterns. They can be annuals, biennials, or perennials. Annuals bloom once per year. Herbs in this category include basil, dill, and savory. Biennials bloom twice per year. Parsley is the most common biennial. Perennials bloom once each season. This includes chives, mint, tarragon, and thyme.

It is very common to grown garden herbs conveniently in your kitchen. There are wonderful kitchen garden herb kits you can purchase. They come complete with the soil and the seeds. You just need to place the kit in a window with direct sunlight and remember to water the herbs. There are even markers to place in the trays to identify the various herbs as many of them look the same as they grow.

Garden herbs can grow in many kinds of soil. However, drainage of the herbs is very important. They also require large amounts of sunlight. Once the herbs have grown in your garden you will need to harvest them. This is very easy to do. Simply wash the picked herbs in cold water then allow them to dry thoroughly. You can freeze them to use later. This will allow the harvest from your herb garden to last a very long time.

Creating your own herb garden is very efficient and simple. You can do this will a small area of earth outside or even in your kitchen. Various kinds of herbs grow at different times of the year. You will need to research the growing patterns of the particular herbs you are interested in growing. Harvesting and preserving your herbs takes very little time. You will enjoy the wonderful taste of the herbs you have grown as well as the savings you make from this engrossing hobby.
